Decision Date: 15 October 2003
Case Officer: Peter Bateman
Decision: Refusal of Advertisement Consent
This decision is subject to the following conditions:
The site lies in a prominent position within the Evesham Conservation Area and is adjacent to a number of Listed Buildings. The proposed internally illuminated signs would be virtue of their size, siting and design, be out of keeping with the character and appearance of both the building itself and the surrounding area. This would be harmful to local visual amenity and is therefore contrary to the aims and objectives of Policies CTC10 and CTC20 of the Worcestershire Country Structure Plan (1996-2011), Policies CB1, CB3, CB5, CB20 and CB22 of the Wychavon District Council Local Plan Adopted Version (1998), as well as emerging Policies GD2, SUR1A, and SUR7 of the Wychavon District Local Plan Review (Revised Deposit) 1996-2011. The sign is also contrary to Wychavon District Council's Design Guide for Shopfront Design (which was adopted as a Supplementary Planning Guidance 1995) which requires advertisements to be appropriate to the character of the surrounding are and not to be over prominent.
It is also considered the proposed sign if approved would set an undesirable precedent within the area, which if imitated by other local businesses, would cause serious harm to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area.
